National Folk Festival '06

Blowin' the roof off!

This past weekend, Richmond, Va hosted the 68th National Folk Festival for the second year in a row. By the end of it, about 100,000 people came down to the riverfront venue to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of some of the richest folk art in the world. Truly, some of the best musicians in the world were here, freely sharing their gifts. They came from all over the US, as well as from Ireland, the Far East, Europe, Canada--they came from everywhere! And sharing 6 stages, they created the most etheral experience, putting their music in the air.

I had the most incredible fortune to cover this event for the Richmond Times-Dispatch. What an absolute treat. The assignment: take photos! That's it, just TAKE PHOTOS!

So, shoot I did. It was an unbelievable experience, and I learned a lot. I cannot thank the people of the RTD enough for the opportunity and their assistance. I did everything I could to make the most of it, and I believe it worked out...

Because, as much as I enjoyed experiencing the music and festivities, I have to admit it was an absolute thrill to see my photos on the front page of the RTD Sunday and Monday.
